3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi all, thanks for the welcome. Didn't realise my $800 daily driver would get so much interest!
What sort of improvements can I expect in performance/ range with standard stage III mods? Any particular intake recommended more than others? Same with the chip, any good ones you can recommend? I'm not looking to make it a performance car, just more efficient with what it has. I'm thinking K&N pod filter, free flowing exhaust & rewritten ECU chip (custom if need be, but prefer some Camry techies tested unit)Thanks!
There are no staged mods for a Camry unfortunately, any mods worth good horsepower are going to be custom. Your best bet for power would be a forced induction setup, the v6s can handle some good power but don't expect to be able to make a monster out of a stock engine/transmission.

1996 Eagle Talon TSI AWD: IPT 3700 restall, DSMlink v3, HKS exhaust, ETS street fmic kit
besides turbo/supercharger projects which will be in the thousands I would say upgrade struts/springs/exhaust(headers if you want too)/maybe a CAI for a better sound. Other than that mostly visual mods like tint, wheels, etc
You really arent going to get that much without a lot of money so just doing handling and like intake, exhaust would be a good step.
the usual intakes/headers/exhuasts are avalible for the 3.0 V6 engine, but short of forced induction, there really isnt much avalable for the camry...youre better off doing suspension mods and minor engine work.....your car looks great as it is tho
As for a Chip or ECU Tune, it WILL need to be custom, as there is none out now. I think you have the 3VZ-FE engine, which has even less then the 1MZ-FE engine.
Suspension upgrades would be a good idea though. Do a small lower, and chage the Rear Sway Bar to a performance one, all of which they do have for the car.

Cool. That all makes sense, will up photos when dropped an inch or 2. I've got a mate who remaps my Z's ECU, I'll see what he can chipmap for the 3VZ. Will post when I find out.
If you know a guy that is good at it (granted, it will take many mnay hours to have it done well), you can gain a decent amount of power without harm to the engine.

Do toysrme's intake mod (and all of the free mods of course if you can) and if you can try to delete the cat and get a better higher flowing y-pipe and that's about it for performance mods that are good for the money other than that suspension mods FTW-- tokico struts and good name brand sport springs would be ideal (H&R, Eibach) and definitely get either the TRD's or Whiteline's rear sway bar the best bang for buck suspension mod for the camry and it's very noticeable. The TRD bar you would have to use the gen 4 (97-01) camry or solara (99-) one but it works.

im courious now how a wagon handles compares to the sedan. cant be better but it seems it may be more balanced due to the extra weight out back....sorry random thought.

It's reasonably tight & direct, haven't explored it's over/understeer adhesion limits yet. It's still a mid-size FF Japanese commuter on 205/15s. No MR2 (or Z32) is she!
they handle nice on 17's, but i haven't pushed mine to the limit either. i can definitely feel an improvement with the bigger wheels though. 215/50/R17 here on 17in Toyota Aurion alloys.
