3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ive been reading about the 9006 to 9005 conversion and it got me interested on doing it myself since my light output seem is weak. But before that, how does this conversion affect other drivers on the road? I konw that the High beams uses 9005 bulbs. Would 9005 low beams have the same effect on other people as the high beams? I've always hated those people that leaves their high beams on. It's makes driving at a non illuminated street so much harder. I just don't want to be a hypocrite.
i hope so. I don't want to have to buy it, convert it and find out that it's not working out. I won't b able to return it. that'll be $40-50 out the window. That's enough to hurt if your in college like me. haha.
I was thinking of doing this on my 93 camry but for the same reason as you mentioned (people having high beams on or some crazy mods that drive me nuts cause I can't see shit!) I decided to stick to 9006 Sylvania Silverstar that are still WAY better than stock and I didn't have to modify them at all. Nevertheless it's your call.
^yeah the 9005 has no cap on the front and a higher wattage rating. (sometimes) You'll get way more light onto the road. Always good for visibility as long as the headlights are re-adjusted so you don't blind all of the oncoming traffic.

you guys/gals with this conversion, has anybody say anything about the bright light coming from your car? if your the 'other' driver, would you get distracted with your car's lights?
Another gripe about living here are all the people who are running around with aftermarket HID kits in their stock halogen reflector housings that produce massive amounts of glare for oncoming traffic.
Driving around here is a nightmare.

ya, that's something i don't want to do. There are some people around here that do have hid in there oem headlight casing and it does give tons of glare and people do leave their hi's on on purpose. I don't want to be one of those people. The more people that do that, the more people think that it's OK. Then this will just get even worst.
It does NOT blind other drivers, so no need to worry. The light ourput, although being brighter, still points lower. I did the conversion in my dads car, and was not at all bothered when he drove behind me. I have it on my car for 1.5 years (till the Silverstars burnt out), and never had people flashing thier lights at me. So all's good.

The thing with hi beams that you don't understand is that they are aimed way higher than the regular low beam side. Therefore, you shouldn't be blinding any drivers, it's just going to be nice and bright for you.
awesome. thanks for everyone's responses. I guess this lil' project is a go. I'll get the bulbs today after school. Kragen has a pair of silverstar ultra for $40 + $10 mail=in rebate with a coupon. So that'll be $30 after 2-3 months when the rebate come. haha.
I did it, it was never a problem. I recently switched to 9006 silverstars because I didn't have the time to mod them (leaving for a trip) and they seem as bright as the cool blue 9005s I had before. I have no doubt though that 9005 silverstars would be even brighter.
