computer swap?

talking with a buddy earlier about the fun and frustration of playing with the camry and modding it. how parts cost more and are alot harder ot come by, he mentioned an aftermarket tune to which i explained i hadnt found anything yet and it wasnt like my ol silverado where i just plugged in a hyperchip. his response was to just go find a celica and rip out the computer...

ok i know this may be a dumb noobie assed question but will that work?!?!? could it be as easy as a finding a 97 celica with the 2.2 and an auto and swiping the computer for something with a little more of a performance tune... yea i know i feel the heat as some people warm up the flame thrower to tell me how stupid i am for this post, or tell me to go search... anyways hopefully a guru with a crystal ball speaks up...lol

im almost positive that wont work. ud have to many complications between differances in engine harnesses, sensors and otehr things that may differ. plus thats alot of work for a very small bump in power. the big reason the celica is faster is weight. 600lbs lighter then the camry and same power.

98 celica

i was afraid of all that, im quickly learning that a couple of old school bow tie hot rodders shouldnt put their heads together on a project when one becomes a toyota guy and the other goes the way of the big 'H' (or in his case an acura) i so miss the days of i want more power so i just change a part the only computer to worry about was the one you used for ordering...lol

i dunno i guess if i was a computer wiz and all... my last real project was a 68 rs/ss camaro for street/strip use... this a much bigger challenger then that was, course my goals are alot different on this to, im more looking for a clean street ride with a little get up and go then anything else... guess im going to take the advice i keep reading, concentrate on suspension and etc and quit trying to make it go fast...lol

on the upside his integra did have to work to get around me even with a tuned ecu and etc....lol

btw has anyone tried the jet ecu reprogram? just wondering...

even if u reprogram, unless u get a really good deal its not gonna be worth it imo.
