Severe transmission lag

Hey guys, I'm getting some real shitty trans lag when my car switches gears. Like it takes like twice as long for gears to kick in, so it feels like I'm redlining before it upshifts and it feels really strange when it downshifts.

What could be causing this?

And would changing out my speed cluster with another one off ebay have caused this problem?

How does your transmission fluid look? Do you think there could be some sludge accumulated in the trans pan? ... How many miles on your engine/transmission?

if you are worried thats the culprit put the old on back in and try it out... maybe also reset the computer by leaving the battery un hooked for a while and see if that helps, i read somewhere that dang near anything you do has to have the computer reset....

Is the fluid low and or as mentioned above, when was the last time you changed out the fluid? Screen clogged will cause that too. Could be electronics, them some strange animals in shifting timing.

I should definetly check that. Also, I'll probably reset the ecu tommorow.

The lag is unbelieveable. Also, I noticed the trans doesn't have as much pushing power as it did like 5 weeks ago. It used to like fight it's way uphill if you took the brake off, but now it just struggles.

Don't mess around on the fluid/filter check. I'd park it until you do it. Those tranny's are expensive!!!!

Might consider a code check. There's a procedure involving the O/D lamp and shorting TE1 and E1 on the OBD together. (to the best of my memory)

You're saying O/D lamp would cause this problem?

What if I just pulled the O/D lamp?

Are you sure it is not the engine losing power instead of or in addition to the trans problem?
Do a compression check on this engine or better yet a leak down test. I'd make sure the engine is in good order before blaming the trans for being 100% at fault for the poor performance.
If you are sure then that only the trans is at fault, you can try a fluid change or even a flush which might help and possibly even fix the problem.

Other than that, for this type of major transmission problem, unfortunately usually it means the trans needs serious attention meaning it gets rebuilt or replaced. The higher the mileage the more likely this is the fix.
