3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm trying to work out how much to cut from the bottom of the intake, and also a shot of the CAI hose upgrade. This is a well thought out & cheap mod, who needs a POP charger?!
Also, what size piping gives the best exhaust sound? I'm thinking just a good Y into 2" pipe into a nice muffler.
just cut the lowest porton of it off. honestly u might be better off just putting a cone filter on there. as far as exhaust id just modify the Y-pipe and leave the rest stock(cept for the muffler). the larger diameter piping the louder its gonna be. if u want to customize the whole thing then i wouldnt go any larger then 2.25 inches.
for the V6 which you have 2.5" is alright cause the V6 stock is 2.25"
depends which part, it varies in places between 2 and 2.25. i personally wouldnt go 2.5 or do anything more then muffler and Y-pipe unless u plan on boosting in the future. but a full exhaust with highflow cat and deleted res would give the most performance but not worth the money it would cost to do it imo.
on the 3vz I think you can run with out a cat without giving out codes cause of the ob1 but im not to sure... personally just run without a cat and get a higher flowing y-pipe and you get more gains out of that than getting bigger piping and changing out the stock muffler to something like magnaflow or apexi's will be more for looks and weight reduction (stock muffler compared to my apexi n1 muffler was a big difference when I held it up)
Cheers for the answers, nice & simple stuff. Will free the revs up which is all I'm after, & hopefully marginally help economy & power.

Yep, those are 90% of the restrictions, & a cost effective way to get a system flowing well. Will be doing that.
it wont do much for revs, revs has more to do with how much mass the engine has to rotate. things like flywheels and lighter pullies help out but exhaust will help a little.
