rough start 01 Camry

My 01 Camry (4 cyl) has a quirky difficult start every time I fill the tank with gas. Every other time it will start fine. I recently installed new platinum NGK's and changed out the ait filter. I got the car in September with 96K on the clock. Other than that it runs well..... Outside of the fact I get sub par MPG. 21 around town 26 highway. and I drive it very conservatively. Any suggestions? and are the two connected somehow.....

I recently drove a 400 mi highway trip ... various speeds, one or two traffic jams, some cruise control at about 65 mph. ... Loaded with 100-200 lbs. of camping gear.
Came up with 31.2 mpg. ...

I usually get 21 or 22 mpg in city only driving .... just around the neighborhood.

Can't think of anything specific as cause of your problem.

How is your maintenance doing? Timing belt?

The timing belt and water pump were changed prior to purchase. I also cleaned the throttle body and seafoamed the intake. I plan to replace the fuel filter and plug wires soon as well. The car fires up and idles like a dream.

Now that I think it is a bit of a dog going up steeper grades on secondary roadways.

Assume for discussion ... engine power is not what it used to be ....
Possible causes:
Injectors not spraying proper pattern .... try injector cleaner.
Fuel pump output ... pressure not up to spec. .... fuel filter or fuel pump.

There was a recent thread .... search Stillrunning ... regarding importance of injector performance and maintenance.
