Got in an accident

Got my car last week, today it's in the shop waiting for it's sentence. Was going around a left turn in a light rain, hardly any water on the road, and 3/4 of the way through the corner the steering was just gone, the wheel had absolutely no weight and did nothing to direct the car. I tried to brake but that didn't do any good, and I slammed into the curb, bending the rim all to hell and the wheel is no longer in the right place in the wheel well. It's at the shop right now and they're calling me on monday morning.

I'd normally just attribute this to my driving error, that I was going to fast or something and just slid out, but I was almost through the corner, and a little before the corner it made a really strange sound and shuddered. It was the strangest feeling when it happened, I was turning, and was almost through the corner (it was a pretty gentle left) and all of a sudden it was just GONE. I don't know what happened, but losing control of your car has to be the worst, most disconcerting feeling I've experienced.

Sad,
Nathan

Sorry no pics of anything at the moment.

That's the best I can do. Also, it was a slight downhill which is strange, if anything it should have spun on a downhill, uphill makes you understeer more...

You should have replace your tires.

The place I used to work at, one of the workers did something similar to what you did. It was fixable considering how old the vehicle was. So you may be lucky.

Yea, roads are the slipperiest when it first starts raining because it draws up all the oils on the roads, but hasn't washed them away yet.

how fast were you going? sounds like the car just lost grip. i know how easy it can happen so i have to be sympathetic. hopefully the car will be fixable and glad to see you're ok.

I don't remember exactly, but I wasn't going too fast at all from what I could tell, before it lost control that is. I went back and checked the road, and it was SUPER slick. I could have easily slipped and fallen on it just running down the pavement. Also, we have been having fires all around us and it had been pretty ashy earlier in the week, and all that particulate matter landed on the road and made it slicker when wet according to some people I've talked to. It was just weird to me that it felt fine and then all of a sudden was gone, it wasn't like I really turned sharper or gunned it or went in too fast and understeered right away. Everything was going fine, I was going around the turn, almost through, and then BAM I'm sliding.

=( Sorry to hear that man. That happened to me for a split second when turning into my neighborhood once... I thought I was about to be on top of that curb, but thank God the car somehow caught traction and everything ended up being alright. Ever since then I've been alot more careful, and now I have to be even more careful with the turbo on there it's alot easier to break those front wheels loose in conditions like that. Anyways... I hope everything works out the way you'd like...

I talked to him right after it happened, and I'm almost positive there was some oil by what he described. I spun out on a highway off ramp 2 months back going slow, and was luckey enough to miss the curb and have no other cars behind me.

There had to be something on the road, it was way to sudden to just be speed. I was turning, turning, turning, BAM going off to the right instead of the left. Thanks for the support Adam

Sucks, sorry it happened. Do you have full coverage so insurance covers, or just liability? I wrecked my first car with an illegal and the way the report was written made it my "fault" and insurance didn't do crap so my car was totaled and I was out with no car, pain, and he probably went to jail for the night, bailed out, and back on the roads.

Hope your car is easily fixed. Good luck with it! Let us know how it all turns out.

Don't u mean liability? comprehensive just covers, stuff like, cracked windshields, vandalism, acts of nature events, etc.
