4th Generation Question about shift knobs

hey everyone........I would really like to change the shift knob on my 2000 (auto) camry V6.....auto being the key word....because of the overdrive cant be taken off or I didnt want to screw anything up on it anyways cuz I have heard that, that button acts as the 3rd gear on the auto camrys, but i was talking to a scion xb guy that said what he did with his buddy was clipped the wire, did something with it and put on a new shift knob, sorry for the long story but I guess what my question is how do I do this? Will this screw anything up? and how hard is it? has anyone tried this before? thanks in advance for any input!!!!!!!!!

All the O/D button is is an electrical switch that would have to be relocated. Just splice on another switch and put it somewhere else. It won't hurt anything, all it does is when O/D is off your tranny can only use gears 1-3, and with it on the tranny can use gears 1-4. Personally I would say don't bother with the auto shift knob. It doesn't really do anything, most people consider it just rice, and I'm sure that if you did do it you would eventually go back to stock. If you do it, please put the O/D button in a tasteful place, not just hanging by wires.

Hey 2kcamrytnr,

I had the same problem as you. I thought the stock shifter was too ugly so I got the Razo RA92 shift knob with OD. I didn't know how to do it but I decided to experiment and read the directions that came with the knob. You just have to cut the OD wires from the old knob and connect it to the wires on the new knob. Just disconnect the car battery to make sure you don't cause a short circuit. I got it done in about 1 hour but I took some extra time to test the new knob to see if it shifted into every gear correctly. My Razo knob was ridiculously expensive, it costs me $100. Nowadays I saw on eBay that OBX Racing was making a VERY similar model and calling it the Tomcat and it costs only about $50. Freaking A, I wished OBX came out with the Tomcat sooner before I had already installed my Razo knob.
