Alright, I know you guys have all probably seen over a million body kit threads and might just ignore this post. Yes, I am inexperienced when it come to body kits. I was just wondering why some of the prices of what seems to be the exact same body kit are so different. I've been told by some people I know personally that some kits are "after after after market" and they become harder to fit etc. I've researched many sites for prices but its hard to tell what your actually going to get. I just don't want buy something and have it end up being terribly hard to fit or crack after only a few months. Would it be wise to look up local body shops?
I'd go to a trusted body shop and let them know what your plan is and discuss with them and you can always call up the manufacturer/website.
But, websites will have drastic price differences simply because they think they can get more money for it, i've never bought a body kit so i probably am the wrong person to talk to. I hope some other members who have done body kits will help you out.
Alright thanks. Unfortunately I live in Kansas and there aren't many body shops but maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. Most of the shops around here only do collision repair and paint. I assume the material the kit is made out of would also effect the price?
first of all, andy's autosport is expensive period. one big factor in pricing is wether the kit is urathane plasitc(which is flexible but hard to modify if needed) or fiberglass(easy to modify but can crack easly). urathane is more expensive. im assuming thoes are both fiberglass so i really couldnt tell ya why its so expensive on andy's cept its prolly a better fit.
What about buying directly from the manufacturer like AIT or ViS versus buying from Andy's Autosport or GroundEffex. Does this effect the quality at all or what it's made of?
hell i been wonderin the same thing, i had looked at some on ebay that were far apart on prices too, found some i thought hey middle of the road pricing and decently high customer approval, then i read his approval and saw where another gen 4 camry owner had complained about his product so i scratched the idea... i think what i might do is when im ready just ask people on here where they got theirs, hindsite is always 20/20 and those that went before can warn us off of bad vendors and send us to good ones.
go to the source, get Erebuni or VIS or straight from manufacturer kit. That way fitment will be pretty good with minimal modding and a quality product. And the status of saying it is actually name brand, not a knock off.
Yes it will be more expensive but think of the money you will save in body work.

Well, me and my friend were gonna put it on. He used to work at a body shop so he's gonna walk me through most of it. I just didn't want to go in and buy something and have it fit horribly or not last very long. I appreciate the advice. One other thing, is there a certain way to tell who the original manufacturer is?
Yeah, he was gonna help me prime + paint as well. But, again, that's why I wanted to make sure I wasn't buying from an unreliable source where I would need to modify the kit.

unless he painting it in a booth wih professional aplicators and paint then dont attempt to paint it, just prime it or get one primed already.
