how to tell if a gen 4 4cyl is federal or cali emission

i suspect my gen4 flex pipe has a leak, upon inspect , it was already welded with a fairly new made in china flex pipe, but for some reason, when i look at it while the car was warming up, i do see a little white smoke coming out of the end of the end of the flex pipe, and i feel some air blowing around the transmission area.

anyway, the vehicle doesn't have the original hood anymore that tell if it is federal or cali emission.
what other area i can look at,

i want to see if i can replace the entire flex pipe with catalytic converter.

when i replaced my bank1 sensor 1 sensor, it was an air fuel ratio sensor. like the one used in cali emission vehicle. the vehicle was originally sold and registered in NY state.

Call Toyota corporate at 1-800-331-4331 with the VIN number and ask customer service. They should be able to tell from the VIN.

Thought NY fully adopted California auto emissions standards in 1996. Cars sold in NY after this date would then be required to comply with California emissions standards.

California emissions cars had 2 cats. One was connected to the exhaust manifold. The other was in the more traditional location under the car. However, I have seen this 2 cat set-up in Camrys outside California as well.

Mine is a Federal-spec model with 1 cat. The exhaust manifold is a little different. My car has these 4 slots on the ex manifold heatshield right near where it joins the downpipe.
