3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Basically I did this for George, and posting it as I need his input as well.
The bolting for it is already on the subframe.
Rod to Subframe, NO ISSUES
The Auto tranny has 2 holes as seen in the pics, that are already threaded. The top one lines up perfect with the 1MZ mounting bracker, bottom does not.
The Auto Tranny has lines int he way, biggest issue.
BUT, only the Manual trannys wil have a use for this. So I'll assume those lines are NOT there. I'll also assume the manual tranny has those same 2 holes.
Verdict, V6 tranny rod needs custom bracket for 5SFE Manual.
Ok, George, I need you for conformation.
1: Does the manual have the same lines as the auto (in pic) that are in the way. Or any other lines?
2: Are the 2 screw holes on the manual?

Nice adam, Ill look tommorow for you since its dark and cold outside .
Anyway, there are no tranny lines in the way of course, looks like it bolts to the subframe with no promblem. Where do you have it connected on the top?

^ i was thinking about making one and putting it on my 5S auto (you can set it up to work around those lines, i think ... i was checkin it out a few days ago in my garage)
but i dont think all the effort would be worth the results

I was thinking (from looking at the pics) of using long, high strength grade 8 bolts, and spacer sleves so the bracket clears the trans lines. So, it shouldn't take too much effort. Every little bit helps, right?
^ well unless youre getting wheel hop (highly unlikely from a 4cyl auto) or the tranny is shakin around for some crazy reason, you wont really get results from the tq rod, thats why i think its not worth the effort
but i was going to just make a different mounting bracket, not use spacer sleeves, although that should work as well

how hard do you think it would be for me to make one of these to fit an Auto Tranny + 5S-FE? .... cost is not an issue, as i have access to a shop and can fork out money for the joints/bolts/mounts/etc
does anyone have any more pictures of where exactly i would have to attach it to clear those two lines going into the auto tranny? does anyone have any up-close pictures of the torque rod itself (installed & uninstalled)?
thanks
EDIT:
seems like i would need a Spherical Rod End attached to a pretty long threaded bolt/end .... and other than that, two nuts & spacers/stoppers?
