3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hey guys. Recently when I start my V6 I here a boiling noise coming from inside the car from the driver side. I cant really make out if its coming from the front or rear but my best guess is that its coming from the Fuel pump. Upon starting the car the RPM rises and then drops under 1k and idles roughly for about 4-5 seconds before dropping completely and the car dies.
But when I DO start the car and giving it some gas, the boiling sound goes away immediately and the car idles roughly for a second and then all is normal. This of course is worrying me since winter is coming and I do NOT want to be stranded in Snow.
My bet would be something along the lines of the Fuel pump. The Fuel filter, spark plugs and wires were recently replaced so I dont think thats the problem. I would have this problem once in a while even with the old plugs, wires and filter in place.

I;ve had things liek this on both of my Camry's, as well as Kings Solara.
#1 Check for vacumme leaks. I know it sounds retarded, but that does a lot of weird crap. That was the issue on the Solara.
#2: If this has only RECENTLY happened, you may have some water in the gas (As has happened to me several times), espetially with the weather getting colder, and condensation happening. Stop at the store and pop in a bottle of Dry Gas (HEET is the most common one), and it;s $1 for like a 1 pint can.

Not sure if your starting problem and "boiling sound" are related but a gurgling sound could be low coolant. Air in the coolant flow can cause an at-start-up gurgling in the heater core that goes away quickly.

thanks Ill check it out.
as for the coolant, Im pretty sure its nothing related to the coolant or the water pump. Coolant levels are fine and no leaks in that department at all. Im pretty sure the sound is coming from the fuel pump.
I have never tried Sea-foam. Should I try adding some in/to the gas tank?

You can try seafoam..but I dont think that will help. Try the HEET like ASG14 suggested.
And the gurgling sound..is it in front of you or behind you?
+1 for the air in coolant lines though. Id seriously look into this. Make sure the overflow tank is not full and is not empty. Should be able half full.
If the thermostat is not opening, air COULD be on one side of it and not the other, right? Just a guess?
