Strut ques.

is it necessary to replace all struts if only 2 'seems' bad? i 'checked' my struts today since my car have been bouncy lately. The right front and right rear are bouncy, especially the rear. But both struts on the left side seems completely fine. Can I just replace the 2 right struts? How much have your guys paid to get the struts replaced? I just want to keep it 'oem.' Where do you guys/gals buy your struts? online? local auto parts?

p.s. i 'checked' the struts by pushing down on the corners of the car. i don't really know how accurate that is.

im on a budget so price is a huge factor. how are those struts on ebay that sells for about $40-50? The seller is "carpartswholesale." any experience from them? I checked Longo toyota, which is one of the largest toyota dealership in california, and they want $208 each for rear and $198 each for front.

I just got my spoiler from carpartswholesale. They seem legit, but it's a spoiler, so even if it was a knockoff it will still function for what I need it to. Struts are a different beast altogether, but as far as the seller, they seem to deliver.

I don't know what struts they are selling, but if you want OEM quality for cheap get KYB GR-2.
I got all four for $240 at .com about 1.5 years ago.

+1 for KYB, good company, and will last forever if you're not lowered.

^ I'm lowered w/ Intrax and they are holding up fine, and KYB's warranty is still valid if you are lowered no more than 1.5".

I've heard both reports, I think it was Bigbird who had problems with them lowered.

To answer your original question, struts should be replaced in pairs or you will get some unusual handling characteristics. By that I mean both fronts and/or both rears at the same time.

http://www..com put in your vehicle and you'll see kyb gr-2 strut's that are 168 per strut, that is cheaper that toyota struts, i called up toyota dealer and they said they sell toyota struts for 180-190 each. Plus, kyb's might be better qaulity than toyota, ive heard nothing but good things about them, and they're considered oem.

Bah, I'm busy ant not reading the other responses.

you NEED to change the things in pairs. i.e., both Frontm or Both Rear. Since you have 1 rear and one front blown, you need to change all 4.

Also, if you have over 100k miles, I'd recomend replacing the front strut mounts.

Unless your going for performance, i'd recommend KYB Struts. I personally like TireRack.

I bought Tokico struts from Nopi. My 1993 Camry LE has serviceable cartridges, so I didn't need the whole "strut". It was night and day difference, and my car actually raised up quite a bit. I used to scrape over speed bumps, but not anymore. I thought it was odd, because I was always told that "struts/shocks won't affect ride height, they only dampen the up and down motion". And that only springs will raise or lower the vehicle, but that's not true!

I did it myself, and saved a grip of money. It wasn't as easy as a 1996-2000 Honda Civic, but it was doable. And easier if you have a large vice and an air ratchet.

I have Tokicos and would NOT recommend them with stock springs. WAY bouncy. With lowering springs, they're perfect. But if you're looking for stock feel go with KYB. Nothing wrong with them, a good solid strut. Plus, Tokicos are $$$ compared to KYB.
