Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So my friend had a AEM v2 Cold Air Intake on his RSX.. After sucking up a nice big puddle he changed it out for a fujita short ram... Seeing how i needed a intake with my stock intake having hole (more of a slash) we took a hack saw to the old CAI and WALA! I give you the latest AEM SRI for a Gen4 Camry
Sorry for the Camera Phone Pics... im going to take some better pics tomorrow
You'll notice part of the pipe is banged up... They had to do that to make it fit for some reason, and the paint is stripping from the pipe moving around when the tire used to hit the intake, you should see the piece we cut off... I dont think i would ever go CAI after seeing the problems he went through... I might strip off the red paint and bang out the bend later on... We'll See
Its flat on that side... the other side is still pefectly roundish... Yeah it needs to be banged out... Lookin @ the pics now it looks like its completely flat to the point no air even passes through it... its not that bad at all... Tomorrows pic will do it more justice
Edit: Whats a SG :S ... And yeah im not expecting any peformance gains at all... Some say you gain some say you lose i just hope to break even
I wouldn't get discouraged about a CAI...on my Camry it can be raining extremely hard with water all over the roads and it never sucks up water at all. It's completely covered and sheltered from the wheel well. Sounds like your buddy had taken out the wheel well cover.
i had my custom CAI on my old gen3.5 with the filter right in front of the bumper vent and it did suck up water if i pushed it durring highway driving with all that spray. but if u dont drive through deep puddles then ur straight.
Ur actually right... He cut a piece of it open... That really wasnt smart move thinking back now... But his entire engine bay looked empty without a stock/sri... On the honda/acura K seris engines the intake manifold is way up front instead of round the back so the pipe just disappears completely into the fender... I prefer the sri in his case
But to me it doesnt matter at all... i wouldnt of even changed my intake if it didnt have the hole/slash... Im going to play around with this one before/if i change it... Not for performance as im not expecting any even with a CAI... But for just quality, hopefully i cant get this one lookin half decent though
I think CAI do have a high chance of sucking in water since most of the time the filter is located so low. However, couldn't you prevent that by putting a water shield outer cover on the air filter and also get a bypass valve installed in between the intake piping?

I think you meant CAI. A shield around the filter is a good idea, especially on the Gen3 where water can come in through the airdams in the bumper and into the filter, at high speeds like mentioned before. I have a heat shield from my SRI that I may put in the half side of the filter facing towards the bumper just to be safe (even though I haven't had any problems with water yet).
K&N makes a sock that fits around the filter on CAIs and only lets air in (supposedly) and AEM makes the bypass valve. Do either of these work well? A friend has a CAI in her Accord and almost hydrolocked the motor a few weeks ago cause of sucking up water and asked me if I could figure out how to prevent it.
Damn where did my thread go... I kno i left it here somewhere In my 5sfe case the gains of a SRI/CAI are so non exsistent or minor I say why bother run the risk anyway... Maybe if i had a Supercharged V6, but I know the bypass valve is suppose to decrease performance, not sure about the sock thingy... So the little extra you gain ur prob goin to lose... I say fuck it just stick with a SRI and avoid the entire hassle...
