Unhappy Driver side power door lock not functioning

Hello,

I'm trying to help my friend with his 2001 Camery LE. His driverside power door lock stopped working. He can lock / unlock using the key, but when he use the alarm lock/unlock, all doors will repond except for driver's door.

We managed to take the door panel out and I tested the connector in the red circle below. It seems to have voltage jumps when door locks / unlocks so I'm guessing it's the right connector for power door lock and that the electrical power / fuses is working fine. So that lead me to think his actuator is dead somehow.

Is this a common problem? And where can I get replacement actuator / door lock module. If there's any part diagrams I can take a look at so I can take it apart that'd be great.

Thanks in advance for your help.

"He can lock / unlock using the key, but when he use the alarm lock/unlock, all doors will repond except for driver's door."

Out of curiosity will it unlock with the inside door switch or from the passenger side key? If it is the actuator these too would be inoperable.

Not sure I have the whole picture. Everything works fine if you use the key in the door, but if you press the button it doesn't work?

On my '95 XLE right now, I have a similar problem, and I've determined the wire inside the wiring harness where it goes from the door to the car body down by the door hinges is broken.

Sometimes it will work if I hit the button when the door is closed, but if the door is open far enough and I hit the button it won't work. With the door open, if I apply pressure to that wiring harnes that I mentioned, it will work every time. So, I'm confident the wire inside the harness has broken (common failure) and when I apply pressure it's making contact.

I have the exact same problem in my 00. I took out all the door panels like you did and the only thing I can come up with is that it is the actuator. If you put your ear up to mine it makes a tiny sound like it's trying to work but it doesn't. My question now is..how in the heck to you replace the actuator yourself without going to a shop and paying?? I took some small mirrors and put them up in the door so I could see and it looks nearly impossible to get any kind of tools in there. Has anyone done this?

Bring up the online repair manual .... Body Electrical Section ... on p. 70 .. and adjacent pages .... there is a test procedure for the door lock assembly actuator ... also various other diagrams and test procedures .... Also available in the Gen 3 Manual ... different pages though.
