3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
For those with 10+ year old gen 3 Camrys, has anyone went ahead and replaced all the mounts even though only one had been found to be bad? If so, how much did that end up costing?
i have, it ends up costing a few hundred bucks. If you do replace em, get oem toyota mounts, they work a lot better. You could also do the job yourself to save some $$. I replaced mine because the front mount was broken and ended up breaking the rear one, and once I replaced that the front went again.
I just replaced mine on the weekend for the first time after 12 years. ofcourse only been driven for 112k miles. Can't really help you with cost, cause I replaced a bunch of other things

What about polyurethane mounts? Is the purported increase in vibrations that significant?
why would you want polyurethane engine mounts?? i can understand polyurethane suspension bushings to limit flex, but why would you want to do this for the engine? the only thing i can see with this is the car will vibrate more from the motor. performance and handling wont change.
I have a polyurethane dog bone motor mount and love it. It definitely helps with initial acceleration. It was a pain to install because I could only get the inserts, so I have to press out the old rubber bushings and press in the polyurethane ones. I think I paid $40 for the inserts.

I was wondering this as well...the vibration when sitting at stop lights and signs and what not is getting pretty bad. Mine is a 94 Camry LE with 150k miles on her. And curious, how many motor mounts does this thing have? I think I'll go ahead and replace them all while I'm at it, but I'm confused as to whether there are 3 or 4.
^ there are 4 mounts. 1 dog bone (top passenger side), 1 front mount(by the radiator), 1 rear mount(by the firewall), and 1 tranny mount(on top of the tranny).

My mounts have never been replaced. The only one that looks a little worn is the dogbone. Ill prolly replace them all eventually though...but NOT with OEM mounts. Cannot justify the price.

if you have an automatic and you're pushing stock power, then ebay mounts will do the job
but if you're 5-speed and you like to push your car (or put down some power- i.e. blown v6, etc.) then you want oem mounts and the price IS justifiable...
I went cheap and picked up an ebay set of motor mounts for my 5-speed swap and even though they worked, they sucked. The engine would move like mad under launch and hard acceleration. It made it hard for a 300bhp car to spin its tires!!! You could literally feel the entire engine rocking.
I just got another tranny mount- a used oem one, and the difference is night and day. Even by placing them side by side, the quality and even the size of the rubber used is different.
If money is an issue though, the ebay ones will get you through until you can find some cheap oem ones
