4th Generation Did I do any damage to my tranny?

This is going to make me look like a moron, but I cracked my head on my camry by running it with no oil. I had been having oil leaks, so I replaced the crankshaft and oil pump seals and the oil pan and valve cover gaskets. She didnt leak nowhere near as much as she was but I still noticed drops in the driveway. My wife was comming home and she said the oil wrng lite flickerd a few times so I told if it came on steady pull off and get some oil. She got home and I jumped in the car, forgetting all about the oil lite and drove across town. Man that thing started knocking and burning. As I put oil in it, it was running out of the bottom, a small stream. I tried to make it home, but the tranny started slipping. First at 60mph, I'd back off the gas then the speed at which it would slip just kept getting lower. I pulled over and shut it off. I have another engine, but do you guys think the trannys gone too. Its an A/T, so I don't want to drop in a new eng to find after all that work the trans is bad. Any thoughts?

if the engine had no oil, that won't directly affect the tranny

did the tranny not have any oil either?

otherwise, it may just be a freak coincidence. and if you have a spare engine sitting around anyway, it sounds as thought you know how to put it in yourself, so it'd be worth it to just pop it in and give it a try anyway. You could always pick up another tranny for a couple hundred or a bit more and pop that in at the same time and save yourself the trouble/worry

Another bonehead move

Ok so I was taking out the engine, disconnected everything (or so I thought) and the torque converter would not separated from the engine. I left the tranny in the car, as I just could stomach trying to get that dang axle bearing out on the right drive shaft. I lifted the eng and pried on the TC bending my flywheel as I was doing it. I discovered I forgot two more bolts on the flywheel. Finally got the eng out, did a celebratory dance, and started to wonder if I messed up the flywheel, TC, or Tranny shaft. Is there any way to have these things inspected to make sure they are still good? And can you change out the tranny shaft seal without tearing it down?

The flex plate (flywheel) is bolted to the torque converter. If you think you bent it too much find another one at a junk yard, etc.

Download the Gen 4 tranny service manual info from the link below:

Used vs New flywheel ?

I read on a post here about flywheels comming apart, is it better to get a new flywheel instead of one from a junkyard. I found one at Advance auto for $59 and NAPA for $98. I definetly need one cause I tried to yank the motor with 2 screws still in the TC. (Didn't see them, and I got the Serv Man. too late)

if the flywheel is bent in anyway, then get a new one

as for the flywheels that come apart, those are only for the aftermarket performance ones
