3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey guys I've been a lurker around here for a while. Anyway, I thought I should introduce myself. I drive a 2000 camry that was handed down to me by my parents for about a year. A few months ago, I got into car detailing (that's car washing and polishing to you)
Anyway, here's some before and after pics. Not perfect because there's some deep scratches and chips and I'm not too meticulous
Enjoy!
Before and After shots of the hood. Nasty
Before shot of the back. Look at all the swirls, oxidation marks, and general dirtiness!
It's the other side, but you can tell how much cleaner it is, and the reflections the car casts.
back shot- here we see the reflections of my balcony off the trunk
All exterior work done using PC 7424, XMT brand polishes, Meguiar's NXT wax, carnauba finishing glaze, etc. etc.
On another note i'm starting to look into modifications I can do to this car. (Looks primarily). Does anybody have the link to a good forum thread for a gen 4 camry like mine? Many that I have found on this forum are long dead.
as far as looks go ahead and put some tint on it, i personally would do 20 all around
lower it and might as well put on some performance struts for some nice handling
you can look into a trd lip kit
a rear sway bar
sri/cai
and exhaust
I'm looking into tints, and plan on getting those as soon as the weather warms up a little, as they are illegal in NY. I was thinking, maybe 35 all around though I'm not sure if that's too bright. 20s look awesome, but getting tickets would suck- so i figured 35 might be a good compromise.
I'm searching for a TRD body kit. IMO, they are the best for an 00 but i'm not sure about the cost as I can't even find them- Does anybody have any resources to help me locate them?
I plan on buying wheels as well, and I will be installing some darker headlights soon. Will update
For now i'm hoping to focus on external and appearance before I get into the nitty gritty of "under the hood" style things, which I am a complete newb. but eventually i'd like to get an intake/exhaust as well.
I also recently purchased a Gen 4. (98, white) And I agree that the TRD kits look sweet on these cars. I've been trying to hunt them down as well. I've found them through random searches on the internet, but they were going for 1200 or so, pretty ridiculous. Razzi makes a kit that looks decent, that isn't too over the top. I'd consider that if the TRD kit doesn't pan out. Also, carpartswholesale on ebay sells a factory style spoiler with the tailight for around 85 shipped. Just needs painted. I already bought one, just haven't put it on yet. Too cold to paint it!
Did you polish the car by hand or with a buffer? I want to redo mine in the spring, and would be all grins if I could get it to turn out like yours!
having fun detailing it.. once you start, you wont stop. at least thats how it is for me. washed and wax every weekend. like someone had said start out tinting the windows, and some rims or be like venom, just ride on steelies.. lol

When I got into detailing, man. One summer I spent over 250 dollars on wash rags, soap, wax, etc. I would wash my car 2-3x a week and wax every weekend. I have no life, obviously, but hey, a clean car is a good car!

i agree. cant stand when its dirty. all my friends give me shit but at least im rolling in style with a black shiny Cam and them.. riced out hondas.. im the only one bold enough to step outside the box and grab a yota. and now im in love with my Cam.
BTW if you live in a place where they dont let you wash your car (like me living in a apartment), grab a bottle of Gunk glass cleaner, Meguiar's Quick Detailera few micro fiber rags and your good to go.
***meguiars quick detailer works best if the car has been previously waxed***
