3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just bought a 1998 Camry LE of my uncle for $1.00
And finally i'm getting rid of my 94 Dodge Shadow.
98,700 miles,
Alloy wheels
tinted windows..
It's got a few problems and i was wondering if you guys might have some answers.
The front right headlight is yellowed (which seems to be a common problem with camrys)
i think the clear coat of the window tint is coming off one of the windows (do they have a clear coat?) is this fixable?
The rims are extremely corroded due to never getting washed. How should i go about cleaning them? The clear coat is flaking off. Should i scrape off the remaining clear coat and polish it, then put a new clear coat on it? (if so what do i use)
1 Fog light is busted. (suggestions on where to get new lights?)
there are also some small spots where rocks have hurt the paint. anything i can do to keep those spots from getting bad? (my 94 shadow's paint was literally falling off, and i don't want that to happen to the camry)

The fog lights are hard to find. The one headlamp could be original and the other one could been replaced. But to take the yellow out they have kits to remove the yellow. If you have a local junkyard see if you can't find anything there. If not Wallmart, Auto zone sells fog lights that are not expensive. The headlamp can be bought at a dealership or even online for less money. Some tints have a protective clear layer, but I don't think they sell it. The rims, just wet sand the clear coat and buy clear rim paint. If the rocks scratch the paint to metal just take some touch up paint, a little clear coat and paint he spot. It can be bought at Wallmart or dealership.
for headlights get meguiars plastx and a powerball drill attachment if you dont want to have to do all the rubbing with you hands and just polish the headlight and it will come back to life. If that doesnt work you can do the wetsanding method which is all over but I would def try the plastx first.
nice man, i second the meguiars stuff. its does wonders. some tints do have a "clear coat". its more or less a film that is adheared to the the tinted film that protects against abrasions and other things. that can peel after a while but ull have to pretty much re tint the window to get it right. get some tougch up paint for the chips in teh paint. u can get color matched stuff at any auto parts store. the paint code for ur car should be printed on a sticker on the edge of the drivers side door.
welcome to TN, post some pics up when i get around to it.
Hmmm...........so the "yellowing" is strictly on the 'outside' of the headlights??
I have a '98 w/ one new headlight and one original. I didn't realize how good the new one looked until it was installed. I'd definitely love to get the old one lookin' clear again!!!
