I found a good beater...but I have some ???

I have found a 96 Camry LE Black/Tan 4-banger automatic. The car seems to be in good condition mechanically (220K), but it has some minor body damage. Its needs to have the hood painted and probably a new bumper (it does have a clean title). Are there any major problems with this year model??? I know there was some discussion a while back about sludge problems or something? Would $1000 be a good price for a camry like this?

BTW, are body parts interchangeable from 93 to 96? Would a 93 V6 tranny fit with this 96?

I'm no expert, but check the electrics. My camry (96) has one of the doors not function anymore (Power lock + window)...

Other than that the car is very good mechanically for me (135k miles) though the locks are a bit messed up (I can't lock with keys anymore, I power lock from inside, though unlock works)

But I'm getting it checked out this wkd anyway.

$1000 sounds like a fantastic deal though, even with the damage you mentioned.

sounds liek a pretty good deal.

- there are NO major problems with these cars. all little stuff.
- take a look at the engine and tranny see if there are any major leaks that need attention. also check the engine mounts.
- when was teh timing belt and water pump last changed?
- how are the bushings on the suspension?
- to check for sludge just remove the valve cover, thats the easiest way.
- these cars have very few electrical problems but it cant hurt to check everything out.

most parts are interchangable between gen3(92-94) and gen3.5(95 and 96). im pretty sure the 6cyl tranny wont work on the 4cyl.
