3rd Generation rear defrost does not work and how to replace inside lightbulb?

Hi all,

my car runs great, but it seems that minor issues keep occuring.

First thing i noticed when it started getting cold is that my rear defrosters don't work anymore. Even turning the AC on to full blast or full heat and pushing the defrost button, it seems like the rear window isn't getting defrosted at all I don't think it's a problem with the defrost lines being cut or anything, as i've inspected it pretty carefully and they are pretty much all intact.

I tried doing a search but came up with little results on this issue, maybe i'm an idiot but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction and walk me through the issue and how to fix it?

Second question is how hard is it to replace the lightbulb on the interior ceiling? I guess it's called the door light or interior light
I hope it's just a bulb problem. is it as simple as pop the casing out and replace the bulb?

Thanks!

ps. Did the s2000 antenna mod on my car, i'll have pics as soon as it's nice out to take pics, and if i get home from work before it gets dark grrrr

Maybe i'm misunderstanding you. But when you turn on the A/C and the defroster mode, thats just for the front and front side windows, not the rear.

ah, that makes me part dumbass
BUT when i push the rear defroster button, it does not defrost my rear window at all. also, i notice that my side windows fog up pretty bad sometimes too.

You shouldn't need to have the A/C on to defrost your windows, maybe that's why they are more foggy than usual.

gotcha.

but, my rear window defrosters don't work. I don't turn my AC on normally to defrost the rears, but i tried it just to see if it would do anything.

Using your A/C will help defrost faster since it also takes the humidity out of the air which is causing the foggy windows. Also, check your fuses, if your back window defroster isn't working. The fuses are located behind the coin holder to the left of the steering wheel.

to replace the dome light, pop off the lens, and pull out the bulb (looks like a old glass fuse) and replace with an led one of your color choice... be sure if you use a screw driver to pop it out not to touch the metal in there or you will short it and have to replace a fuse too.

at least thats what the procedure was on my 97

Have you tried waiting?

It takes about 5 minutes for my Camry to warm up for anything in the car to work (defrosters/heat)

Relevant fuses/relay:
10A Gauge ... J/B no. 1
40A Defog ... J/B no. 1
Defogger relay .... check for continuity between terminals 1 and 2 (coil)
...located J/B no. 1 .... left side under dash ... behind coin box maybe
.... see Gen 3 online repair manual wiring diagram ... p. 20, lower, for terminal
numbers. Defogger wiring schematic on p. 190.

Hi,

My rear defrost does not work at all. Did you have any luck in getting it fixed?

I have a 2008 corolla.

Check the fuses.
A 2008 is still under warranty, take it to the dealer.
