Have a look at the chassis plate, it will say the plant where it was built. I don't know what advantages there are in US/Can manufacturing, except from what I've noticed, Japanese cars built in the US plants are very well screwed together. In fact, some JDM models (like my gen 3 wagon) are built in the US then shipped to Japan. That said, Japanese manufacturing is first-class too. We stopped assembling here in NZ years ago, as the local cars where nowhere as well built as the JPN sourced units. (Despite what the dealers all said!)

Some parts are different and not interchangeable.

Look at your VIN and see if the first character is a J, for Japan Built, or a number 1 for US build.
(2 denotes Canada Built for other models, 3 for Mexico, 4 and 5 for US build etc.)
