I don't know about "most" ricers. But many have done it....and almost all regret it. I had an old 1980 Honda Accord I did it to, and the ride was insanely harsh. The ride was so bad that, any illusion of "better handling" was out the window because I was making constant steering corrections to stay on the road.
Don't do it. Buy aftermarket spring for about $100. It is SOOO worth the money if you want a lowered car.
If you do decide to do it, don't use a hacksaw. Find someone that'll let you use a plasma cutter. Make sure you cut it correctly to get the the safest spring rate.
whew we going GHET TO up in this one, aint cut springs since 92, and wouldnt if i had the choice, helped a buddy lower his monte like that, (werent alot of people making lowering springs other then mini trucks then) it rode like a skate board.
Dude springs now a days are SO cheap, why waste time and effort cutting stock springs????? Get a job, pony up the money and buy REAL lowering springs...
