Gen 4-4.5 Trunk swappability?

Is it a direct swap? I like Gen 4.5 taillights a little better and would be willing to swap my trunk, I assume the bumper and side lights are the same? Anybody did that?

Lol, you want the Gen 4.5 rear lights right? For that you would just use the lights, not an entire trunk

I've always wanted to know the same thing because I am gen4.5 and have been thinking about getting the VIS carbon trunk. It looks like the cutouts in the trunk for the lights are different. Someone else chime in.

Found this after a little search...
does the gen 4.5 taillights fit on the gen 4?

nope if i remeber right the 4.5s have a angle to them, across the trunk area angling down where as the 4s are straight, also it has always seemed to me as the 4.5 have a more jeweled look to the tails.

The vis trunk is for a gen 4 tails,
the 4 to 4.5 would work the lid size is the same its just the tail lights and the opening is the same.

The side lights are different too, so bodywork will be needed. I'm pretty sure the trunk is a direct swap but the lights will not align correctly. Shucks.

the tailights won't match, the ones on the gen 4 are more rectangular and smaller

To do it right you will likely need to change the bumper AND trunk, which SHOULD be a direct swap with no custom work (except for maybe the light wiring, not sure thought).

Gen 4.5

Gen 4.0

You're right, the nicks in the fenders are both the same where the light sits. Somebody needs to chime in for the wiring cause I suck at that, but thanks for the detail pictures. This could actually be an easy thing to do, plus it looks like it wouldn't cause a problem with the TRD kit.

I just look online for Toyota parts, and the 1997-2001 quarter panel are the same, so just lights, trunk, and bumper should work. The wiring won't be as bad as you think.

i think the 4.5 tails are better because they're bolder and more pronounced-

i'mma guess- at most; you'd be spending $1500 w/parts and paint.. - 1500 will go a long way .. so think it thru- if its worth it.
