3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm not the most engine savy person. So, I look to you guys to share some knowledge with me on how to increase HP on my 92 Camry V6 DLX. I want to increase the HP by using as little money as possible. I don't know too much about "turbo-ing" a car. If you guys could let me know what parts I would need that would be sssuper!
For any of the suggestions you have, if you could tell me how much the product costs, brand names, where I could buy them (online or store), and personal experiences with various products, I will give you virual hand relief (no homo)!
If you're not "engine savvy" cheap HP will not be had. Maybe 5HP or so from an intake, exhaust and headers but something like 40HP+ would require quite a bit especially since you have the V6.

Well I wouldn't mind paying someone to install "40HP+". I mean if I'm going to add a major HP gain performance part, like a turbo or something, I definitely wouldn't put it in myself. Also, how much HP do headers add and how much do they cost?
Headers, between I think 800 and 1800$. The manifolds for the turbo would be ridicolous, well. There is one guy here with a turbo V6 that he did himself. Look at 2000+ for that
There you go stuff that is proven and free or pretty cheap and anything else is a waste till you spend big money on a turbo or nitrous oxide system "nos"
cheap and horsepower should never be put in the same sentence

Has anyone tried his mod where you tap into the ECT sensor to fool the ECU into thinking the water temperature is lower than it is? Just looking for some feedback on this. Does it work on the OBDII 1MZFE or just the OBD1 3VZFE?
^ There are a few turbo 1MZFE's on here, and also you can get the OBX headers for $300 but I don't know if they are still selling those since the whole fitment thing.

damn glitch ur runnin 12 lbs on that thing. nice work man
there is no such thing as cheap hp when it comes to camrys, period. if ur willing to go through it then turbo is the way to go IMO. teh only cheap thing to make the car faster is to start removing stuff liek hood, trunk, doors, windows. just strip it to teh chassis and shell be pretty fast
Cheap horse power would basically lead to minimal HP gains.
the things u can do to help out ur engine is an Intake + Cai(if u want)
Custom ypipe
and other maintenance operations like seafoaming the car, checking if uv'e replaced all the things neccessary at the right times, make sure ur PCV valve isnt too old, shit like that.
Might as well do ur spark plugs as well, if ur staying stock, u can use OEM spark plug wires.
Change ur Fuel filter, its to the right of the engine (black)
