3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well guys, the time has come. I have finally realized what i should of realized about a year ago.
Background:
I just realized that i will never make the camry as fast as i want it to be without spending another 10 grand on it. Dont get me wrong, i love my camry, its just that camrys dont have shit for aftermarket support like these other cars have a plethora of. So what does that mean? The camry is officially done, not going to turbo it, but instead keeping it as a bad ass daily driver. I will still be very active on the boards, but i will be moving onto to bigger and better things, looks like another gen 3 has bitten the dust.
Next Car:
Not going to be a Toyota , but it will be AWD and turbo goodness . Im thinking about an EVO 8, plenty of aftermarket support plus they are BADASS, and come STOCK with about 300 AWHP!!
Thoughts and comments are welcomed.

evo sounds awesome man. but how do ya figure 300 AWHP, they dont have 300 BHP. none the less i have a few friends with thoes and they are amazing when it comes to handling. my budy cant even brake her loose in the rain. truly fantastic cars. i think thats smart what uve decided. and the car the way u have it will make an awsome DD.
You shouldn't have spent all that money on a BBK or nothing like that. You should have went straight to the turbo when I told you way back. Damn you!!!
if it were a choice for me between teh STI or Evo, man that would be tough. both have great potential but the evo just handles better. i like the look of the sti more but thats like choosong between pizza and burgers. both are delicious and bad for you
my opinion: you shouldnt ditch the camry ... you should re-evaluate your plans for it ... otherwise, you just sound like Allen and the like
also, if youre looking for AWD Turbo .... Mistubishi is FTL .... and thats not just the Subaru fan-boy in me talking .... Mitsubishi is just a crap company and has never been well-rated

same boat as you bro- as much as i love my camry; engine's just shit for days and there just isn't enough help to push it through, honestly- there's aftermarket headlights for a hyundai accent but there isn't any for the gen 4..
i was ready to go tranny swap and get ready for a turbo.. but - its no use.. its a really reliable car with no power - so im keepin it that way. Look good and sound good- imma grab a different project.. im thinkn' jaguar s [r] or an r32. .. maybe even the new tundra- who knows.
ah- the mitsu soldier; well idk- i just don't feel right about buying a car from a company that makes TVs; Refrigerators; Microwaves- etc. (no pun intended-) and i can't say that i see alot of old ones roaming around either.. so good luck with ur next project.

well if you decied to put a tv, regrigerator or microwave in your evo, at least you know its compatable
So it's over, I support your decision and your still #1 camry overall to me since you started with a camry same as mine- 5sfe, auto, sedan, drum brakes and showed step by step what was the right way to modify it, well to me!!!
Anyways Evo 8 sounds nice- to me the new evo over here in the US is like the Skyline was in Japan and the STI is like the Supra LOL!!!
It may not be different but so far I rarely get to see those cars around and everytime I see one it's always a sight.
From what I've read the Evo 9 and the new upcoming one is becoming to noob friendly in that it's masking a bad driver and making them all look good- like the saying goes "AWD making bad drivers look good" I would prefer the evo 8 and it's probably has less electrical crap that is a hassle to mod it without problems. I don't know if it has changed but back then they were a hassle to fuck with it.

i support your decision, im moving on.
This past weekend i took all my shit off the car. Still have alittle more to take off but shes being traded in shortly. But I might be getting a 08 camry lol
ahhh...that's too bad george....but by the same token, it's understandable.
It's just unfortunate that you stated out with the 4banger...basically just like everybody else who has dropped from the camry thing.
the 5sfe juts doesn't have any potential in it for a car that weighs as much as the camry does. as shown by the people who have actually done it, the 5sfte just puts the 5sfe into the 1mz/3vz range and a bit more. beyond that, major internal work has to be then done.
But personally, I'm never going to give up on my car- too much blood and sweat put into it. plus, it's pretty now an STI killer (need that damn tune though), so what more is there to ask for out of a camry?
