4th Generation hot brake, smell burned rubber

ok i gots me a 2000 camry LE v6. recently, the mechanic at the dealership pointed out that the front left caliper is sticking. so i took it to my mechanic and had the calipers and rotors replaced. he also put in some ceramic pads on em. now i noticed that when i went to school, i stepped out to smell burned rubber. i check my front left and i can feel the heat from 6 inches away from the wheel. and the smell was coming from that wheel. i checked my other wheels and they werent as hot as the front left, nor did they give off a smell. i also noticed that when braking it does kinda drag far and the brake pedal can reach low. i dont see how this could happen since i just replaced the rotors, pads, and calipers. im seriously lost.

after getting the new one installed, did you break them in? did you slam on the breaks, rode the breaks, or any hard stopping?

well i took em on the freeway. i dont any of that racing stuff. i just drive it to school. theres lotsa traffic on the freeway when i go to school. i had to make a few quick stops cuz people cut me off, but none where i had to slam em. i didnt really have any time to "gradually" break them in because i had to go to school a few days after i got it fixed. can these frequent stops really affect it?

edit

i guess that should be the problem....

anyway well this be permanent or will it get better later on?
sorry for such newbie posts. to be honest i really dont knwo anything about cars. im trying to learn right now.

did your mechanic bleed teh break system after he was done? also try checking the fluid to see if you need to top it off. those might be the cause it to drag. hopefully you didnt warp the rotors yet but try taking it easy for a bit and see how things turn out..

My brakes always smell after I drive to school, its an uphill section and then a downhill section, so quite some braking, and engine stress (A 5fse wasnt meant for climbing hills, lol)

but how come only one wheel is making a fuss? shouldnt both front wheels be doin the same thing since both had the same parts replaced? the front right wheel is nowhere near as hot as the front left, nor does it smell as bad.

You are correct on this assumption. Both front brakes should be equally hot, as they should be doing the same amount of work. I suggest you take the car back to the tech who did the work and let him figure out the problem.

Your brake hose MIGHT need to be replaced, causing the caliper to stick. Take it back to them to check it. It happened to my car when I did my brakes a few months ago. BTW ceramic pads make these freakin annoying high pitch noise!

You can take yoru caliper apart and there are two shafts inside of those rubber grommits, they probably need to be greased.

as far as the heat, they said that it just had some grease that needed to burned out. they looked at it and saw nothing wrong. i guess....

anyway they bled out the brakes for the low brake pedal. that seemed to do the trick. they looked at the brake hoses and they said its fine. they said that if the problem happens again, i have to replace the master cyclinder. that sound bout right to you guys?

oh i ditched school to go to the mechanics >=D

Occasionally, like Aenties mentioned, the brake hose itself goes bad. It can start breaking up on the inside and sometimes allows brake fluid to flow into the brake cylinder (applying the brake) but doesn't allow the fluid to return (thus not releasing the brake fully and causing it to overheat). If this keeps happening, check into it. It is an easy repair but the brake lines will need to be bled again afterward.
