Please Help

Wasup guys I have a 2000 v6 Camry with 101k miles on it. Two days ago the car started acting weird and would stumble upon acceleration. I would mash the gas pedal all the way down and it was having a hard time accelerating. I took it to a mechanic and they changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires. They also changed the throttle position sensor. He advised me the I needed a new fuel filter and that the trans fluid was too high. I did not have any more money so I couldn’t get that done. Its accelerating much better now but not good enough. Do you think a clogged up fuel filter is to blame? If so is there any website I can visit in order to learn how to change it out myself.

Well, as for the transmission fluid, you can check that yourself easily. After a drive, leave the engine running and pull the dipstick. It should be near the top of the "hot" reading, or upper notches. If it's way above there, simply jack the car up and drain a little bit of fluid out at a time.

As for the fuel filter, according to what i've heard, the filter is part of the fuel pump assembly, which is in the tank. It's actually easy to get to, just pull the bottom cushion of the rear seat up, and it's right there. I don't know for sure if that's the only filter though.

Is there a Check Engine light on at all?

The AutoZone website has some info on DIY repairs. The link below provides access to Camry shop manuals.

http://www.camrymanuals.com/

The engine should have a filter in the engine compartment, part cost is $15-20. Do a TN Camry history search as others owners have asked questions about changing fuel filters.

At 101k mi., you need to start looking at the timing belt. Suggested replacement at 90k mi. .... also water pump. ...Maybe remove timing belt cover and inspect TB.

can you take the cover off to look at the TB ? Does anything have to be removed like the alternator ? Have 92,000 and I'm getting my list of parts together as we speak

See the manual link above .... section on Gen 4 V6.
There is a diagram that shows the upper timing belt cover ... p.14.
Probably a good idea to review the manual instructions for TB.

I4 engine wasn't too difficult ... not sure about V6 though.

oh I thought we were talking about the 2.2 . I have a 00 with the 4 cyl . I thought there might be a way of looking at the TB before I rip everything off. Just curious to see if it's the orig. belt on it. I asked the dealer where I bought the car from if they knew if the TB was done, they didn't know. I should have talked to the wall to get a quicker response.

Anyone have a tips or tricks when replacing cam shaft seal, oil pump seal, oil pump o-ring or anything else. I figure when I'm in there might as well do the whole shebang, don't want any problems since the wife will be driving it. TIA

TB and WP suggested replacement cycle for 2.2 is 60k mi. .... There is an upper timing belt cover which can be removed for inspection ..... Probably best to go with the mileage parameter. ... My WP only lasted 44k mi.
Search posts for details on other seals... Also review appropriate online repair manual engine section.
