3rd Generation speaker install question

um... well i have a gen 3 executive (DX) right?

so by now by searching the forums that means i have 4 inch speakers at the front doors right?

but i also read that some people are able to fit 6 inch speakers in there.

that gives me questions...

How exactly does a 6 inch speaker fit? does it need any custom cutting etc.

Will it fit inside the stock standard plastic grille of the door?

There are cadence 4 inch speakers on sale here would should i get them or would any 6 inch speaker basically blow them away.

Thanks for your help guys. yous have helped me so much already!

Not sure where you came up with the 4" speaker?

I've never looked at a DX, but I thought the door panels were the same as the LE and XLE, If they are, then you can fit up to a 6.75 speaker in there.

Go to http://www.crutchfield.com and put your data into the "Outfit My Car" tool and they'll tell you a bunch of stuff that will fit your car.

it might be an Australian option (4in front speakers)

you can get decent 4in speakers. but if you can fit 6in or 6.5in, that'd be a lot better.

having said that, i'm using the factory front door speakers in my wagon and they sound awesome through a decent head unit.

you'll find a lot of it has to do with the head unit that you're using. put the most expensive speaker attached to a crappy head unit and it will sound as crappy as the head unit.

there is more to sound systems than door speakers.

Ahhh. Sorry about that. I didn't even notice that you were from Australia. I don't think we had and 4" speakers here.

Have you had the door panel off yet to see what's there? Even if you have a 4" speaker, it's possible that they just used an adapter plate to mount that in the same location as the American 6.5"

so what speaker configuration do the DX's have in the back in america?

in the australian executive we dont even get rear speakers... i just installed some today and the rear are awesome! i had to cut holes and all that but yeh, worth it... except i need to replace the fronts to balance my rears out.

the front speakers suck!

anyone got any ideas? i hear its a pretty tedius and time consuming task to remove the door panel. especially if its just to check for a speaker size.

Removing the door panel isn't that big of a deal. As soon as I have a couple of minutes I can post a DIY on door panel removal. Or if you do a search, there may be one out there already.

and is there a step by step of removing the door panel?
