Do I need the actual headlight?.....

Hello all ! I'm a fresh fish here, my first post!

My mother has a 1996 Camry. She has been complaining that her headlights need adjusted, and when I went to adjust them I found that the adjuster screws seem stripped out. So she took it to a body shop and they quoted her $300 per side She isn't a fan of putting that kind of $$$ into an 11 yr/old car, so, being the good son that I am, I offered to help.

Question is this: Do I need the headlight, or is there some sort of assembly that the headlight goes into that I need? And one more question: I read in the FAQ in the Camry section about how-to remove the headlights, it says it applies to the 92-94 models.. I assume the 96 isn't that much different?

Thanks!!

-chris

I would just get all new aftermarket headlights for about $130. DEPO is the brand, and they are much clearer and look a lot better. Then aim away.

Okay Thanks!

So the aiming mechanism is part of the headlight right?

Depo actually doesnt make clear headlights for the 95/96 Camry, only the 92-94 (which are different in shape/size)

the adjustment screws on one of mine are stripped as well ... and the screws are attached to both the headlight and assembly (depending on left/right or up/down adjustment) if i do remember correctly

your best bet is to get a pair off of ebay like this

oh, and for headlight removal - the 92-94 should be similar to the 95-95, although the bolt positions will be slightly different due to different shapes in headlight/grille ... but its quite easy to remove, it took me about 15 minutes for one side

As other said, Ebay. IF tyhe adjustment rod is still there, you can use pliers to turn it. It;s a pain, but it works.

Even a person thast does not know cars can change the headlight on the '96 Camry. It;s really straight forward.

Excellent! This place is great!

I guess I'll go the ebay route then.

I guess the thing that threw me off was the body shop insinuated that they had to remove the bumper and a bunch of other crap to get to the headlight assembly. I'm a VW owner and have never encountered such a thing when wrenching on those, but it being a Toyota, and my complete ignorance of these cars, I was a little worried. Sounds pretty straightforward.

Thanks everyone!

1: To remove the headlight, unscrew the top 2 grill screws and remove.

2: Unscrew the 1 screw holding on the corner lens, rermove.

3: Unscrew 10mm nut attaching headlight to fender behind the corner light.

4: Unscrew the 3 10mm bolts (One on fender, 1 on bumper support, 1 right over that on the bracket).

5: Slowly pull light out, and then unhook the 2 bulb plugs.

And install n ew light.
