V6 with radiator issue

Hi, last week I tried to flush my radiator, didn't complete it tho. Removed the top hose & both caps, tried to trickle the hose through any entry, wouldn't allow reverse flow. Since then, she gets to 50-70% on the temp guage in heavy traffic, and dumps water from the overflow bottle. Needs 1-2 litres each 100km trip. It's not the head, I'm sure, but could well become that if I'm not careful & don't fix it pronto. Will removal of the bottom hose (not just the drain plug) allow me to put a garden hose in to either the hose or the radiator to get a good 30 minute flush? Or must I fit a T adapter to flush?

Replace your thermostat. OFTEN overlooked.

What I ndid though, to flush my cooling system is drain the coolant from the radiator drain plug AND the engine drain plug. Fill it up with the garden hose, warm it up with the heater on (To circilatu more) drive it a few km, and empty it. Then refill it with Toyota coolant and DISTILLED WATER ONLY. Not tap water.

But you have to drain it to replace the thermostat anyway, so may as well do it all.

*Added* Download the Lexus ES300 FSM's at the bottom of the page. It will have the same engine as you, and a great refrence guide ot have.
