4th Generation Gen for $7800

I was browsing the local car mags (mainly Autotrader) and found a 1998 Toyota Camry LE I4 with 144000 KM (89500 mi) looked at the car it is bone stock- no leather, no electrics, and they want 7800$ for it. Looking for a good project for a track car.. Should i take the plunge

Why would you use a camry for a track car?

for a track car its too big and too slow. to me that 9-year-old camry
with 89k miles and a 4 cylinder motor should be in the range of $4500-$5500.

i wouldnt pay $7800 for a Gen 4 Camry ... you can get them for much cheaper

also, if youre going to try to build a track car out of a Camry, i would go with a Gen 3 [just more resources and people to talk to]

you should know that you are going to need a huge budget for a Track Camry ... upwards of $15k, i would say ... if you want to break out of the 250hp range ... what did you have in mind for power/speed/times,etc.?

ok so u want to drag

I4 = NO
AUTO = NO... 5 speed = still NO
CAMRY = NO
7800 + BIG NO

ur lookin at the wrong car for a drag car. if ur hell bent on a camry then look for the gen4 V6 5speed and supercharge it.

or talk to Tonythetiger, hes got the only camry id call a dragable car.

u could put thousands into this car as a drag car and still get beat by stock camaros, mustangs or other things like that.

Please, don't do the most regretful thing you will ever do in your life and get a 1998 for 7800!! please! don't. My 1996 is 112k miles and fully automatic and isn't worth 3000 bucks. 2500 tops!

the Soarer is an SC400, not an LS400 ..... that would be a better platform

the Corolla is worse than the Camry, IMO

what is your budget?

Hmm, - u fo'real? If so, yea, the Soarer SC250 or SC400 make a good drag weapons, and I'm sure the same can be achieved with the LS400 (Celsior).

It takes big money to get a FWD launching anywhere near a decent speed, whereas a $10k stage 3 SC250/ 400 could do 12s.
