parking brake light on and off

2001 camry - whenever i park, i use parking brakes. recently, i noticed that the indicator at the dash comes on and off while driving (when the parking brakes are off). i tried to push the button on the parking stick in (thinking that it might have gotten stuck) and it looked like it worked the first time. but again, i started noticing the light come and go.

any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting this thing?

yup, i agree.

ALTHOUGH! have a look at your brake pads and see if they need changing (they probly do)

yep - happened to me a few months ago ... filled the brake fluid up and it went away

the fluid might not look low, but when your car turns it may trip the sensors - so make sure you get it completely full (theres a max line)

After refilling the master cylinder back up to the max line, as the others have suggested, take the car somewhere to have your front brake pad thickness and rear brake shoe thickness (or pads if you have discs in the rear) checked. You can also check this yourself if you know what you are doing. When the fluid goes down far enough to trip the sensor, it usually indicates that the pads (and/or rear shoes) have sustained a lot of wear. It may be time to replace them.
