is it blocked or broken? reason why im asking is a number of people who have them get blocked up assume the have to replace them but in a number of cases flushing or even reverse flushing can unblock it.

Not hard, as in you do not have to pull the dash. Unit comes out from driver's side under dash. Drain coolant first (duh) then disconnect heater core hoses from firewall under hood. Access is behind panel under driver's dash behind center consol.

As ghettosled said is it leaking, no heat, etc?

if it helps, here's some pics from my haynes manual for the 1997-2001 camry, avalon, and solara. I bought this manual for the specific purpose of helping me replace my heater core on my 1997 avalon, but that metal chassis bar you see is right in front of my pipes, so i can't pull it out. i don't understand how to get it out.
