Australia Knocking noise

Greetings

I have a 1993 Camry V6 Vienta that has a load knocking or tappet type noise from the engine. It starts ok, it runs ok (sucks on fuel), and as far as I can tell has no other problems. I thought it might have been big end bearing, but having listened it doesn't sound as deep or low. It seems to be more at the top of the engine and like a loud tappet or rocker noise and you can feel it if you put your hads on top of the engine.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has come across it as a common problem before I decide what to do.

Cheers
Peter

does it match the revs? it could be the timing belt if its worn(mine did that) or possibly a sticking valve. if its commin from the head.

Hi bigbird

It does match the revs (gets louder and faster). I was thinking also of a sticking valve, but the car seems run so well, apart from the noise.

Cheers

Thanks guys

The cars got approx 395,000 KM (about 245,000 miles) on the clock.

I am going to try some stuff we have here called Lifter Free. It does a pretty good job on sticking valves so they tell me.

Cheers

I cleaned out the oil, flushed the old crap, refilled and added some lifter free. Sadly it has not fixed the problem. There was a couple of times where it ran quiet for about 15 secs but then reverted to the same old noise. Looks like it may be a really sticking lifter. I took it for a bit of a run but still hasn't free'd things up. I don't think I'll spend any more time or money on it so looks like I'll sell parts or best offers for the whole thing.

unkit: looking for a cheap V6 Camry.
