What are the chances my 95 wagon needs a new transmission?

bought my 95 wagon used in '98 with 40k on it. Almost nothing but highway driving, and now at 140k. Only major problems were needing to change out 3 of the O2 sensors, but it's been near perfect IMO.

The OD light started flashing last week, and I took it in and the Toyota guy says I need a new transmission. Is that likely? The car never gave a hint of a problem. Anyway, I'm going for a second opinion.

I think I read somewhere ... that the specific sequence of flashes seen on the O/D light could be looked up .... similar to the engine diagnostic code. .... Don't remember exactly where I saw it ... online repair manual probably.

Yeah I know but I forgot how to read the flashes before I took it in.
You turn the key without starting the engine (or something?) to read the flashes.
Oh yeah this is a V6 (did they even make a 4- wagon?)

If you have the Gen 3 V6, you probably have OBD II scan tool capability built in.
Take the car to an Autozone or other parts store and see if they can read an engine code.

Tranny's done

OK. Second guy says based on the condition of the fluid (burnt) and the 2 codes, it's time to replace. I'm opting on a rebuild to save the extra thousand bucks new would cost. But damn I was hoping this thing would have lasted longer than 140,000 miles!
