3rd Generation Cruise Control Wont work over 65 mph

Camry 96 2.2 liter 156,000 miles

When I was driving today on the highway I went to set my Cruise control at 65mph and it worked fine. 30 min later I went to set it at 75 wouldn't work. When I got off the highway went to set it at 45mph and it worked fine. I notice a black box where a white wire was loss from a black box. I plugged it in my cruise control worked and got the above results. Before that my cruise control didn't work at all.

Correct. That's the factory legal compliance, all Japanese cruise systems lock out at 112kph (about 69mph). If you set it at 65, then use your accelerate/resume lever to take it to max allowable, you may be able to see 70-72mph. At least it does on my wagon. I don't know of an ECU mod that deals with this, damn minimal after-market support.

I'm a big fan of cruise, allows for a reasonable cruising speed just under the local Police tolerance before infringment notices. NZ open highway legal speed is just 100kph (62mph) with a tolerance to 109 (67).

I'm pretty sure mine can be set over 69 MPH, and mine was made in Japan. However, I have a 2000 so maybe there's a difference between mine and your 96?
