Headunit replacement.. wiring help?

Hey guys

I just replaced my headunit in my 94 camry. It now has an alpine hu and everything works fine. Except when i turn the headlights on the dash lights dont work. This is kinda anoying when im driving at night as i cant see how fast im going.. I checked all the fuses and they are fine except the tail one keeps blowing when headlights are turned on.

any help would be great!

jase

Where was your car made? ... Canada?
Anyway ... just a guess .... check for a solid green wire in the vicinity of the radio/cd unit ... inspect and see if it is possibly touching anything that might have cut the insulation or shorted it to ground... This green wire comes from the tail relay, and I think maybe from the headlight relay, if your car is the Canada version.

The guy is in the land down under, where women glow and men plunder. Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? Anyway, I'd assume that it was either made in Japan or in Australia.

At this point, just pull the radio out and double check all the wiring. If it is still a problem, remove the radio completely and re-wire it so that you can correct the short that you have somewhere in the system.

Out of curiosity, which Alpine did you go with? And any chance that you can take a picture of it? Just wondering how the console looks in a Camry with the wheel on the right side.

i agree with what everyone else said here about touching wires. speaking of which, were you able to wire yours so the alpine unit only lights up when you turn on your headlights? for me, all of the lights on the HU turn on as soon as i power up the radio. its a little annoying at night because i cant control how bright it is.

be sure to tape them good. if you can solider and use heat shrinks.. better connection and more secure.
