I guess I have two questions. What did the noise that you mention sound like? Was the shop that you mentioned a mechanic's shop or your work?

I don't believe that it is your spark plugs. You are experiencing rough running when the engine is cold and good running when the engine is warm. Sure sounds like a sensor or a system controlled by a sensor (EVAP components?).

First thought would be to clean out the EGR valve, modulator and vacuum hoses. Unless of course the shop that you mentioned did some work on the car and damaged something.

What was the mechanic working on? It sure sounds like he may have forgotten to put a wire or vacuum hose back on.

It can't hurt to change out the plugs but I would expect them to work better when cold and worse when hot. I tend to stay with the fuel / air metering system.
