I always have my ECT button on, that might be the reason I get under 20 mpg most of the time. I also drive around town with O/D off. It's just so I don't have to go through so many gear changes when just going under 45mph.
personally i still think the ECT button gives the placebo effect. i can rev the engine just as high when i am accelerating with the ECT on or off.
in terms of O/D, its an automatic transmission - leave it on. let the computer shift into what gear it needs to be in (unless you are towing a trailer or climbing up a very long hill). if anyone wants to shift the gears manually, buy a manual transmission.

your car should shift earlier with ECT off - mine definitely does .... it will shift around 4k rpm normally, but i can nearly hit the redline with ECT/PWR enabled
O/D shouldnt really ever be turned off, with the exception of you needing to drop down to 3rd gear to maybe get on an on ramp, up a hill, pass someone, etc ..... an auto tranny knows what to do around town, or in most other situations
