Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hey everyone, im new and i have a 1994 toy camry coupe v6 with the ole reliable 1MZFE.
i was wondering what i could do to my car to improve it in power and handling?
so far i installed a weapon-R intake, only because the air filter the car came with was absolutely black and i had no money to replace it yet, but i plan on returning to airbox with a K&N filter.
also i was thinking of adding strut and sway bars to the cars but i dont know how much of a difference they make and if they are even available anymore.
last but not least what sort of engine mods could i do to gain a bit more power from the engine?
thanks to all and if you got this far, i also have something to offer: i have alldata 9.0 with the import discs so if you have any cars that have problems or such let me know and ill try to help you out with your problems, so far i think i can go up to 1994, but im downloading the other cd's so i should be able to increase that soon.
if u get a strut-tower bar, go ebay but dont go ebay cheepie...
if u want engine mods....one comes to mind....turbo!!! but i think a v6 would be more difficult to turbo than a 4cyl

yeah i was checking out ebay but they seem to be relatively cheap, so i dont know about their quality, it seems to me like they're for show more than anything.
as to the turbo, that crossed my mind after seeing tony the tiguer's camry with the garrett turbo's but mine is a fail-o-matic and i dont see much point to it, altough it would be fun to have a sleeper camry coupe.
of course, if a 2jz-gte camry is done (google it, its interesting) i dont think the MZ will be much trouble, altough i do agree that 5s' might be better and they sure as heck can take a pounding (wait til you hear my story with my 5s...)
dont return to the stock airbox unless the Weapon-R is giving you problems
get a TRD Rear Sway Bar ($150 shipped) + Gen 4 Bushings & Mounts
get Tokico Struts and Eibach or H&R lowering Springs
not much you can do in terms of power, unless you have a fairly decent-sized budget
hmm i see, well originally the weapon-r was meant for a 92-96 prelude that i got with my prelude for free (long story, point is honda's are shitty) but i modified it and made it work with the MAF sensor on teh camry, so its all oem rubber hosing with just weapon-r intake and the reason why i was thinking of going back was because a friend told me that intakes like that actually decrease HP because of the hot air in the engine bay (and i can actually kinda notice the difference when the car starts heating up).
and thanks for your advice, any idea how much the struts, sway bars and bushings will run me?
btw, i have alldata so if anyone has a ? shoot away!
the SRI wont really make you gain or lose any noticeable amount of hp or tq (neither will a CAI) unless its bent or banged up from being changed to fit a Camry
--Bushings are cheap ... like $5 a piece
--TRD Rear Sway Bar is $150 if you get it from a guy named Reggie (username: NVDIS1) on SolaraGuy.org
--Struts + Springs is ~$500

i see, thanks a bunch for your help, tomorrow with some light ill take some pics of the engine bay to show you how the weapon-r looks, and i actually like the way the car sounds and how much power it has when you hit the gas.
and as to the turbo, that will be a future mod when i have a bit more money in my pocket, but i do plan on at least tinting the windows and smoking the rear tail lights in the very near future, ill follow the guide that i found at lexls, (http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/light...aillights.html) ill try to show all of you how that looks as well...
thanks Miltdoggie, and btw as to TIS techstream i had never heard of it before but after reading
"The new service center also will allow all technicians to access TIS Techstream. The technician's dream piece of equipment is able to diagnose every detail of the Toyota, Lexus, or Scion vehicle and its history in complete detail. TIS Techstream can access the history of the vehicle even up to a minor fender-bender that might not otherwise be disclosed. The service department will have six of these machines, which cost $6,500 each.."
wow, thats amazing man! i guess you sure got me beat!
