looks like this:

and its right behind the intake manifold on the 5SFE .... its higher than the manifold, so just look towards the firewall and you cant miss it

here, you can see it in this picture:

on the 1mz, it is basically attached to your intake plenum- just follow the lines of the throttlebody and you'll see it htere

po401 is low flow. check where the egr connects to the intake and make sure there isnt a wall of carbon blocking the hole. if there is just clean it out and you should be fine. shouldnt have to replace any parts.

I still dont see what you have pictured in the first picture in the second picture. I see things that look similar...but they are not what you have pictured.

Are the EGR valves on our cars different from model to model or something?

the first picture isnt from a Camry ... its just what an EGR valve/system looks like .... the 2nd picture is an actual 5S-FE

When you take it out, the EGR valve (1995 Camry) looks like this:

I've got the EGR valve circled in yellow and the EGR Modulator circled in green:

A little closer (EGR = yellow, Modulator = green)

There is often a sticker under the hood showing the vacuum system. On my 1995 it is:

I find the 1995 system to be almost identical to my old 1990 Camry.

If you pull off the hose on the EGR valve and take a vacuum pump and attach it to the Egr valve. With the engine running, pump up the vacuum pump . If the engine stalls or stumbles then your Egr valve is ok and the port is not clogged . If this is the case replace the egr modulator and the electric vacuum solenoid which is mounted on the back side of the motor block under the intake.
This will fix your problem

on the imz the egr is right next to the throttle body. it would be where the intake goes from single tube to all six. inside part of the sweeping turn of the intake. if you put your hand on the throttle body move your hand about 3-4" to the left and your hand would be on the egr. the picture of the egr in the thread is off a 5sfe but looks kind of like that as well on the 1mz.

people read before you answer. he is talking about a v6 not 4 cyl. the part of the egr system that is creating the low flow problem is not the egr itself, it is where the egr attaches to the intake manifold. carbon builds up a wall right there creating low flow from the exhaust to the intake. your egr valve will still work it is just being restricted by the wall of carbon at the intake. the vsv you speak of on a v6 is actually on the fuel rail next to 2 other vsv valves. if that was not working you would get po402 for no flow.
