3rd Generation Removing A/C?

Has anyone removed the whole A/C system? I want to remove it as It probably weights allot and I don't use it, and I plan on stripping my car down.
Does anyone know how much it weights total? And how hard it is to remove?

Thanks for any help.

Man it cant weigh THAT much to make it worth taking out. The heaviest thing is the compressor and that doesnt even way too much.

But you take that out the tubing and everything, the back seats, the carpet, everything else and you got some weight out. And I'm replacing the two front seats with light racing seats. Also when someone else rides in my car I can feel the difference from the extra weight. So losing 100+lbs I should be able to feel that also.

^ FYI - The rule of thumb is that for every 100 lbs you remove you only gain 0.1 sec on the quarter mile.

For Gen_3 and 4 pretty sure your will need to remove the dash to get at the evaporator, this is a LOT of work. Suggest removing the A/C compressor, condenser, etc. Save the parts in case you sell the car.

You will also need to deal with the electrical side of the A/C system such as A/C amplifier, idle up system, etc.

The link below provides access to service manuals.
