Transmission Flush

Is there a guide anywhere on how to do a transmission flush for the Gen 4 Camrys?

I just did it on my Volvo, and I don't think it would hurt to try on the Camry (I don't think it's been done either ever or for a very very long time).

The technique for my Volvo was.......
Drain Transmission fluid from the pan.
Disconnect a quick connect that goes to the radiator and use the car's pressure to get everything out (about 2 qts each time and refill after I get 2 qts of dirty stuff out).

Also, what kind of fluid do I want? (Dexcron, Mecron, etc)

Kocho has written up a diy for transmission flush using the technique you described. Though don't drain more than about 1-1.3 qts at a time though because it starts to foam. I don't know if that's bad or not.

i just did mine yesterday, on a 97es300. same as gen 4 1mzfe.
check for my thread. there contains 2 links to other DIY. but all in all its very easy.
drain and regasket and refilter tranny. then disconnect the line closest to drivers side(return) from tranny and radiator. attach a longer(~4 ft 3/8 ID hose) from the radiator in the place of the removed hose. but attach at radiator. this way you will flush everything in the radiator. i let all my tranny fluid bubble up. i personally dont think it should be a big deal because once settled, the fluid goes back to a normal fluid state. but dont hold me against it. thats what i did and did not see any ill effects.
Goodluck

You shouldn't have drained the pan in your Volvo. Probably didn't hurt, but it's not recommended (until a month ago I had a '93 945T).

And to do the flush in your camry... disconnect the transmission line to the transmssion at the radiator, and do the driver's side one. Connect the 5/8" ID hose to it (the same hose you used on your Volvo). Start the car. As fluid pumps out, be adding fresh fluid into the automatic tranmission fluid dipstick via a transmission fluid funnel.

Keep track of how much fluid is leaving by having it pumped into gallon jugs, gallon jugs on which you have pre-marked quart lines. Have three or four bottles of transmission fluid already opened and ready to go. At some point, with your foot on the brake, work your way through the gears for a few seconds each. Really, it's the same routine as you did on your Volvo except don't drop the pan and use the driver's side hose to the transmission.

ok, maybe you can answer this for me heat, since apparently you know more of this subject.

why do you do it at the radiator(tranny out)?
if you do it like my method(not touching the tranny out) and plugging in a longer hose from the radiator out, then you would essentially be flushing your radiator as well?

Whoops, good catch, I didn’t mean to say “to the radiator”, I meant to say “to the transmission”. The same driver’s side hose you connected to. I’ve edited my post above.

Here are some photos of when I did it. The transmission fluid in the engine picture (which was taken while looking at the engine from the front) was from when I hooked up to the wrong line – not good, about a quart of fluid was pumped onto my driveway.
