some websites like hidworld.com offer 55w hid kits and say they are 50% brighter than regular 35w kits.

55watt hid's have a shorter life span. If you want 55 watt hid's its better to just get a ballast and boost them and hook it to a switch that you can turn on and off. Basically just have 35 watt all the time, and when you need it, bump it up to 55. Either way, unless you have projectors, it'll annoy every other driver on the road. Even then, 55 is tooo much light. Just stick with 4300k and 35 watt and you'll be fine.

Not at all. 35w is more than enough.

Edit: Don't get them. Especially if you do city driving.

Even w/ projector retrofit, I would not recommend the 55w.

i meant if you can boost up regular 35w bulbs to 55w just by modifying the ballast

by changing several of the internal components in the ballast, you can get them to put out more power. You basicall use P=IR. current is not going to change, but you can change the resistance, so you get more power(watts). There is a write up or two at hidplanet. several people have done it, but not many because you just don't need it.

here ill help you out...

this is a picture of a 35W hella kit with oem housing:

lol, at least once a night I get people flashing me to turn off my "highbeams". When I flash my HID highbeams (yes 2 stage bulbs) then they shut up and drive off.

as you can see, 35W is plenty. Those are 10,000K bulbs to make my clear corner HID bulbs btw. the kit was one of the best things I bought for the car, and it was one of the cheaper things too at approx 200 bucks.

questions?

lofl, I was using a camera phone and I was like 2 or 3 feet off the ground at about 15 feet away. They are the perfect 4 feet up or whatever at 25ft...I work at lexus, and made sure because they are so bright...

its kind of a tricky picture, because the phone's camera is tricky and made it look like insanely bright....

Yes, but even then. Have you considered aiming them down a litle bit further? It might cut down a little bit on your own visibility, but at least it's safe for others...

But yah, I know how Cameras like to accentuate the "glare" but you told me yourself that you're hitting other drivers in the eyes. I have never been highbeamed in my car...
