chrome is for classics, hot rods, muscle cars, suvs, and big rigs...lol
as far as drawbacks, watch for potholes
for price, the cheapest place i have found for rim tire combos (as cheap as the best deal i can find in ebay) is http://www.edgeracing.com/ specially with their sale right now prices for a package start under 800 for 18s

One disadvantage of chrome rims is that they are HEAVY compared to those that aren't chromed. I think it can affect integrity of the metal also, but if you're not racing it, it shouldn't be an issue.

Heavy wheels have more rotational inertia, and since you are getting 18s, that increases the rotational inertia. Don't be surprised if your car is more sluggish, brakes don't work as well, and your fuel consumption goes up - though that is also related to the tire and the width (aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance among other things).

i have taken out rims with alot more tire on them both steel and alloy...i guess it depends on what you call potholes, i dont call little dips and divots potholes, i live in houston area, where the medium sized potholes will swallow a yugo, the big ones you drive down one side across the bottom and back up the other...

but in the end its up to you, and no matter what anyone says a person will believe what they believe, if you believe you dont need to dodge potholes then hit them full tilt boogie my man, ill be getting 17s for christmas, and plan to upgrade the suspension ASAP to help dodge potholes!

I have also 18 inch wheels. 2 times the canvas of the tyre was broken.
That cost me $1500,-

To prevent a third time i have taken these precautions:

-a good tyre brand (i have now Michelin heavy load tyres)
-Minimal 2.7 bar tyre pressure
-Width not 235 but 225

no problems anymore

look out for bumps on the road........ it cost me 2 repairs...... $200,-
