Info about 97 engine interchangability

Hey guys,

Pretty new to this forum (mostly DSM's for me) with a question about a 97 camry im working on for a friend.

Engine is pulled and fully disassembled. number one Rod bearing completely gone and killed the crank journal and well as the big end of the rod.

Looking to find out what other cars I can pull a crank from. There are various 90-92 mr2s, celicas, corollas, and camrys that I have access to (all junked). Hoping to find a crank and rod set that will work in this 97 camry. (5sfe)

I hear that in 92 they added the balancer assembly, and that in july 94 they changed the gear on both the crank and balancer to reduce start up noise. is that correct?

If i pulled the crank and balancer out of a 92-94, or just used a crank out of a 90-92, would that work? Basically, is the crank the same except for the gear to drive the balancer? Has anyone just eliminated the balancer by leaving it out of the engine? Or if they are swapped as a pair, can i use the one out of a pre-94 motor?

Thanks guys!
