Use Crutchfield's "Outfit My Car" link and they'll show you a bunch of stuff that will fit.
If you're going to do straight woofers in that opening, MICO417 is right. You'll need some other speakers for mids-highs. Also, if you're planning on using the factory wiring, you're going to need either some filters or a crossover. Otherwise you'll be sending the entire sound spectrum to your woofers.
The big problem is not what you can fit there (6.5"), but rather that a lot of that speaker sound is lost by going through the outside door skin. Dynamat helps a ton! I put some on my front doors (as well as the trunk lid and rear speaker shelf) and am very impressed with the results. Even the best speaker can sound like crap if you don't tighten up the body.

Well, you can't just remove the existing factory speaker and replace it with a woofer and be done. #1 you'll be sending the entire sound spectrum to your woofer, #2 you won't have any mid or treble.
The easiest thing to do by far is to get a good pair of coax speakers that fit and replace the factory speakers with those. Then it's a very simple install. Remove the door panel. remove the factory speaker. Install the new speaker. Replace the door panel. Then you can just use the factory wiring, and you dont' have to worry about crossovers or filters, etc.
What kind of head unit are you running? Factory or aftermarket?
Well, what are your plans for your system in the long run? Or do you have any plans? I mean, are you planning on replacing the factory head, etc? I would make sure that whatever you do with your door speakers at this point is compatible with your system for the long haul.
^^ see im simple folk though..all i need is an fm trandmitter and m set...cuz i get all my music/entertainemtn from my laptop, and i just transmit from there...i had a 6 disc, but the magazine was fucked so now the changer is just sitting in the garage...but i mean im cool wit my stock head unit...as long as i have my $40 fm transmitter...i'm set...and i mean speaker-wise..i already have a half ass box in the trunk, 2 4" woofs and 1 tweeter..and im plannin on adding these 5 1/4s to that box along with a 12"...too much in one box? i kno...but idk i like the idea..and worst comes to worst, my speaker box blows...i mean its particle board, not mdf...lol

uh .... thats a pretty standard woofer size
standard sizes from 4-6" are most common

my bad.. i havent seen the word woofer used in the place of coaxial or door speakers... for me woofer is referring to speakers that produces bass ONLY.

As an example...
If you buy a component system for your car, you get a woofer, a tweeter and a crossover. Some places you can buy the woofers separately. The most common sizes for those woofers are 5.25, 6.5, 6.75.
Some places like woofersetc.com even sell small woofers like these and label them as "subwoofers". To me, that's a woofer based on it's frequency range, not a subwoofer. But hey, call them what you want.
To me, the ideal setup would be to have a woofer like that in the door where the factory speaker goes, then mount tweeters up higher. But, if you're not going to install component tweeters up front, then I'd go with a coax in the door. I wouldn't want a system that didn't have some high end up front somewhere.
ah .... subwoofers is what you were thinking, not woofers
i know.. maybe its a west coast/east coast lingo type thing.. lol.. oh well learn something new everyday..
back to topic.. most the type if you by a "woofer" some of them have attached/built in tweeter and other will come with a separate tweeter that you can mount where you want. without the tweeter you'll just have a lot of mids and some to none highs. if you want some bass, get a little 10 in a sealed box. give it about 200 watt rms and you have some bass. just my .02 cent.
