1998 Front End Rattle

I just joined the forum. Has there been discussion of front end rattle noise on 1998 Camry? My mechanic can hear the noise, but can't find the cause. Struts have been replaced.

I have the same thing. When I changed my struts everything looked ok. But I am sure it's my passenger side strut mount (above the strut itself) that is the culprit on my Camry. I just haven't had time to get up in there to change them.

Did your noise occur right after the struts were changed?

Mine happens when the front end goes over a bump. A lot of times bad CV joints are described as a popping, clicking, or grinding sound while turning.

Noise came after struts replaced. Mechanic who installed struts can't find the reason for the noise. Says everything is "tight." I know nothing about the science of auto mechanics. I just change the oil when I'm supposed to. I've been reading on the web about others with a strut mount (whatever that is) problem. This is frustrating. Haven't taken it to a Toyota shop yet. Think they'll be able to figure it out?

It is most likely the upper strut mount. Toyota had a problem with those on the 97-99 Camrys. The replacement is a redesigned mount. Do a search for "strut mounts" on this forum and read up on the problem. It has been discussed many times.

I bought new OEM and After market strut mounts and it still have problems. I did the hole suspension, I don't think it is the strut mounts.

Remember I said it's "most likely" the upper strut mount. There are other things in the front that can cause rattles, like the sway bar end links and the sway bar bushings, just to name 2 other things that can cause rattles when they wear/fail. These would be the next most likely things I would check.
