yea i want to put 6.5's in the place of 6x9's and i dont want to have to modify anything except for adding an adapter. will it all fit under the rear trunk lid?
Yes, you can put 6.5s where the 6X9s are with an adapter plate.
For the 6.5s, you can look on Crutchfield.com to see a bunch of speakers that will your rear deck. They also sell adapter plates. If you buy speakers from them, the adapter plates come with the speakers for free.
Not sure what you mean by "will it fit under the trunk lid". Are you talking about the rear deck cover? The speakers have nothing to do with the trunk lid.
You can also get an adapter plate on eBay to mount aftermarket 6X9s where the factory 6X9s are. Crutchfield doesn't have 6X9 adapter plates, and as such, they'll tell you that 6X9s won't fit the rear deck.
Realize that going from a 6X9 to a 6.5 round, you're going to lose some bass. Don't know what the rest of your system is, but hopefully you have a sub or something to make up for the lost bass.
Well...the adapter plates from crutchfield will fit 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" speakers. Why are you asking about smaller and smaller speakers for the rear? If you go with 5 1/4", your rear speakers will be smaller than your door speakers. You will only have mid to high range, and lose just about all of your low range sound (no bass). Even if you do add a subwoofer, it will sound horrible.
Whatever, if that's your thing, go for it...
you'll be swapping those tiny speakers for your stock 6x9" in a week.

thats pretty much how mine set is sounds like.. lots of highs, some mids and lots of bass.. im running 5 1/4 up front with 2 tweeters in the rear on the deck lid thing and my subs..
if i was you, just got with 6x9, i've run just the 5 1/4 and didnt sound to good. not enough of the lower bass that the by 9 can produces. but at the its all on you to what do you like and what not..

Yep, I have 6.5" rounds from Crutchfield along with an adapter plate from them. With the adapter plate, they fit like a glove.
Should a person have 6x9s? Well, yes, but if money is really an issue or whatever, take 6.5" rounds with the adapter - the sound will be much better than the stock speakers sound.
Kind of depends on what you plan to do with the rest of your system. It's hard to respond to a "hey, how about these speakers" question when you don't give any other info about your system or your plans/goals for your system.
If you're putting in a subwoofer, for example, then 5.25s in the rear deck could be ok. If you're not putting in a subwoofer, then I'd want the biggest speakers I could fit in the rear deck. I definitely wouldn't go any smaller than 6.5s or 6.75s, and ideally, I'd seriously consider 6X9s.
The other important aspect is power. Are you running the factory head unit, or an aftermarket head unit? Are you using the head unit's internal amp, or are you using an external amp?
Not to contradict Heat, but I don't believe you can automatically say that aftermarket 6.5s will sound better. That will depend on what aftermarket speaker it is and how much power you're sending to it. Just as an example, if you put a high end 6.5" speaker in, but drive it with the factory head unit, you're likely to notice a significant loss in BASS compared to the factory 6X9s. The mids and highs will undoubtedtly sound better, but the bass may be disappointing. Now, take that same 6.5, and power it with a good high power external amp, and that's a different story.
The factory speakers are very low power, but highly efficient speakers. They'll make pretty decent sound with a 15W amp. People often think they can just drop a nice pair of aftermarket speakers in and they'll be all set. But, your speakers need to be matched to the amp you're driving them with.
Like I said, hard to make any recommendataions without knowing what you're system looks like.
